Harris
and Dr. Coady are attending physicians at N.Y.U. Medical
Center, N.Y.U. Downtown Hospital, and St. Vincent’s Hospital
and Medical Center. Dr. Fromberg is an attending physician at both Long Island College Hospital and St. Vincent's Medical Center, Manhattan.
Dena E.
Harris, MD, founder of SoHo OB/GYN in 1980, was born in
Philadelphia, PA. She received her B.A. from the University
of Pennsylvania, graduating magna cum laude in 1972. She went
to Hahnemann Medical College, named after Samuel Hahnemann,
the founder of homeopathic medicine, where she received her
M.D. in 1976. She did her internship and residency at N.Y.U.
Medical Center, graduating in 1980. From 1980 to 1990, Dr.
Harris maintained her affiliation with N.Y.U. Medical Center
and N.Y.U. Downtown Hospital (then known as New York Infirmary
– Beekman Hospital). She became the Director of Quality
Assurance of N.Y.U. Downtown Hospital and was awarded a
Clinical Assistant Professorship at N.Y.U. Medical Center.
Dr. Harris was a pioneer in the early 1980s for being the first OB/GYN
in the SoHo area and also one of the first women OB/GYN's in
private practice in New York City. After becoming
partners with Dr. Deborah Coady, in 1990 she co-founded SoHo OB/GYN
women’s healthcare center. A year later Dr. Harris saw
the publication of the book she co-authored,
Recovering from a Hysterectomy. In 1997 she joined St.
Vincent’s Hospital and was awarded a Clinical Assistant
Professorship at New York Medical College. Dr. Harris is currently
affiliated with N.Y.U Medical Center, N.Y.U Downtown Hospital
and St.Vincent’s Hospital. She is a fellow of the American
Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was board certified in
1983. Dr. Harris lives in Manhattan with her husband Jude Quintiere, a pastry chef, and daughter.
Deborah Coady,
MD was born in Brooklyn, NY, and attended the State University
of New York at Albany where she graduated summa cum laude, Phi
Beta Kappa in 1976. She went to the Mount Sinai School of
Medicine, graduating in 1980, and did her postgraduate
residency training in the specialty of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at N.Y.U. Bellevue Medical Center. She was awarded
the Lyman Barton Memorial for the graduating resident with
honors in 1984. From 1984 until 1990, Dr. Coady maintained an
active role in resident training and clinic administration
at N.Y.U. Downtown Hospital, while also establishing a private
practice. In 1990 she became partners with Dr. Dena Harris in
creating SoHo OB/GYN, a women’s healthcare center.
Dr. Coady is
affiliated with N.Y.U. Bellevue Medical Center, where she is a
Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology,
N.Y.U. Downtown Hospital, and St. Vincent’s Hospital and
Medical Center. She is also a Clinical Assistant
Professor at New York Medical College. Dr. Coady has been an advocate for
improvements in women’s healthcare and reproductive freedom
all of her professional life. She is a Fellow of the American
College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is board-certified by
the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1986,
and is a member of the New York Academy of Medicine. Dr.
Coady lives in Manhattan with her husband, Dr. Michael
Goodman, a dentist, and her son, daughter, dog and cat.
Eden
Gabrielle Fromberg, DO, is an osteopathic physician, Board Certified in Obstetrics
and Gynecology (1999) and Board Certified in Holistic Medicine (2003).
Dr. Fromberg was born by natural childbirth in NYC, breastfed, weaned
onto a naturopathic diet, and raised as a third generation vegetarian.
She grew up with an awareness of the wholeness of all things and the
goodness within people. In college, she began studying nutrition,
yoga, massage, midwifery, natural family planning, and herbal
medicine. She received a B.A. in Biology from Oberlin College in 1985, graduated
from Southeastern University of the Health Sciences College of
Osteopathic Medicine in 1991, and completed her residency in
Obstetrics and Gynecology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic
Medicine in 1995. From 1995 - 1997, she was in private practice at
Catskill Women's Health Center in the Hudson Valley. In 1997 and 1998,
she volunteered in Bali, Indonesia with the renowned midwife and
author, Robin Lim, providing culturally sensitive
prenatal care, home birth, and health care in a traditional Balinese
village. The project has built a birth center and a homeopathic
apothecary, and Dr. Fromberg was an assistant researcher for "Obat
Asli Bali: The Synthesis of Traditional Herbal Medicine and Modern
Medicine in Bali, Indonesia." She also wrote the forward to
"Eating Wisely: Recipes for Pregnant and Breastfeeding
Women," by Robin Lim, CPM. Dr. Fromberg continues to consult with
Robin Lim and the project in Bali, now known as Yayasan Bumi Sehat - Healthy
Mother Earth Foundation.
After returning from Bali, Dr.
Fromberg established a private OB/GYN practice in New York City. From
1999 - 2004, she was on the faculty at Long Island College Hospital in
Brooklyn, where she supported midwifery practice and helped establish
the hospital's Birth Center. She was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and
Gynecology at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in 2000. After ten
years in practice, working with midwives and delivering babies in the
Hudson Valley, Bali, and Brooklyn, Dr. Fromberg now focuses
exclusively on holistic gynecology for women throughout the life cycle
and joined SoHo OB/GYN in 2005. She is a Fellow of the American
Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a Diplomate of the
American Board of Holistic Medicine. She incorporates natural
remedies, vitamins, herbs, nutrition and lifestyle recommendations,
and other alternative approaches in her medical practice. In addition
to holistic gynecology practice, Dr. Fromberg is also the founder and
director of Lila Yoga, Dharma & Wellness, a unique wellness center
dedicated to the cultivation and celebration of the cycle of life.
Lila hosts diverse programs including yoga, prenatal yoga, meditation,
martial arts, birth and parenting services, massage, holistic health
and nutrition counseling, and holistic sexuality workshops. Dr.
Fromberg is an Advanced Forrest Yoga teacher training graduate and
teaches Fertile Yoga workshops and private yoga at Lila.
Dr. Fromberg's husband, Edison Archer, a visual and martial artist,
musician, and Nagkpa (Buddhist practitioner), manages Lila and teaches
meditation and internal martial arts at the center and at Tibet House.
