Healing Painful Sex: A Woman's Guide to Confronting, Diagnosing, and Treating Sexual Pain
By: Deborah Coady, MD and Nancy Fish, MSW, MPH
At Soho OB/GYN, we are proud to announce the upcoming release of Healing Painful Sex: A Woman’s Guide to Confronting, Diagnosing, and Treating Sexual Pain, an informative book co-authored by two of our staff members. Dr. Deborah Coady and licensed clinical social worker Nancy Fish have collaborated on this project to educate women who experience painful sex, but may not have been able to find a solution to this issue.
As the only book on the market completely focused on the treatment of this common problem, Healing Painful Sex provides women with a comprehensive resource for understanding the causes, diagnosis and treatment of sexual pain. This condition often produces medical and psychological symptoms that require special care by an experienced professional, despite the embarrassing connotations often associated. Dr. Coady and Nancy Fish offer this book as a helping hand to patients across the world who suffer from sexual pain.
Within the book, readers are first provided with a general introduction to sexual pain, including its widespread prominence and an honest description of what patients are likely experiencing. The first section of the book aims to help patients feel comfortable discussing this issue openly so that they can receive the most effective treatment for their individual condition. It also prepares patients on how to provide this information to their doctor.
The second part of the book then focuses on the medical aspects of sexual pain, helping patients to determine the cause of their symptoms by reading actual stories of other patients, as well as learning about the different treatments available for painful sex, which includes integrated medical and physiological approaches. The final section of the book provides advice on coping with this condition overall, including its effect on your sexual and overall lifestyle, and how to move forward.

Drawing from her personal experiences, Nancy helps patients with acute and chronic vulvar and pelvic pain cope with theirconditions, including navigating personal relationships, receiving emotional support and explaining their condition to others. Nancy is committed to helping patients overcome the emotional challenges often associated with this condition.
Combining Dr. Coady’s medical expertise and extensive experience in this field with Nancy’s firsthand experience and background in psychotherapy helps to educate readers and provide comfort in knowing they are not alone.
